1+MG Framework
Overview
The 1+MG Framework is the normative reference document for the 1+ Million Genomes (1+MG) initiative, a commitment by 24 EU countries to enable secure cross-border access to one million sequenced genomes. Produced by the Beyond 1 Million Genomes (B1MG) project (2020–2023) and continuously maintained within the GDI project, the Framework addresses ELSI (Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications) alongside data quality, technical infrastructure, and healthcare integration requirements for federated genomic data access. National genomics programmes consult it as a practical specification when implementing these requirements, analogous to the FAIR Principles as a normative reference that policies and infrastructures build upon rather than enforce directly. The GDI project is the primary infrastructure implementing its recommendations.
Connections
- relatedTo: GA4GH (Framework incorporates GA4GH Beacon, DRS, and DUO standards for federated queries, data access, and machine-readable consent)
- relatedTo: EHDS (Framework is aligned with EHDS secondary use requirements)
- relatedTo: EGA (Federated EGA model is the recommended controlled-access repository layer in the Framework’s technical infrastructure component)
