NWB Working Group
Overview
The NWB Working Group is the independent community governance body for the Neurodata Without Borders (NWB) standard, co-founded in 2015 through a collaboration between the Allen Institute for Brain Science and the NIH BRAIN Initiative. It oversees the specification development process, maintains the NWB Data Extensions (NDX) registry through which the community can add new data types without altering the core specification, and coordinates the long-term sustainability of the NWB software ecosystem including the PyNWB and MatNWB APIs. The Working Group operates through a core development team, a technical advisory board, and open community review periods for all specification changes. The NIH BRAIN Initiative has been the primary funder of NWB’s development, and mandated NWB as the required data format for BRAIN Initiative neurophysiology submissions in 2019.
