TDCC
Overview
The Thematic Digital Competence Centres (TDCCs) are network-based initiatives set up by NWO (the Dutch Research Council) and the Dutch academic community to broker investment into research data management (RDM) projects and promote the adoption of open data, software, and research practices across Dutch academia. They are organised as three national, discipline-based pillars: Life Sciences & Health (LSH), Natural & Engineering Sciences (NES), and Social Sciences & Humanities (SSH). The TDCCs formulate and fund projects through the NWO TDCC Challenge Calls and develop the expertise needed to sustain open and FAIR research practices.
Relevance to open neuroscience
The pillar relevant here is TDCC-LSH, which coordinates and funds FAIR-adoption and data-stewardship work across the Dutch life-science and health domain — the national data infrastructure that neuroscience research in the Netherlands depends on. Its initiatives (LEARN-FAIR, FAIR-Aware, FAIRify, and cohort harmonisation) build the FAIR Principles capacity and data-stewardship networks that underpin reusable neuroscience data, complementing Health-RI on the coordination side. The NES and SSH pillars fall outside the scope of this graph.
Network coordination
TDCC-LSH runs a Data Steward Interest Group (DSIG) and contributes to a Dutch Interoperability Network, connecting data stewards across Dutch institutions to share practice and align on interoperability. This places it alongside the other Dutch national RDM bodies (Health-RI, DANS) in the layer of coordination and capacity-building that sits above individual repositories and standards.
Connections
- relatedTo: Health-RI (both coordinate national life-science RDM and FAIR adoption in the Netherlands; TDCC-LSH runs the Data Steward Interest Group)
- relatedTo: DANS (Dutch national data-stewardship and archiving body in the same coordination layer)
- relatedTo: FAIR Principles (TDCC-LSH funds and promotes FAIR-adoption projects across the life-science domain)
