IMY — Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten
Overview
The Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY) is Sweden’s data protection authority, formerly known as Datainspektionen before renaming in 2021. It supervises compliance with GDPR and Swedish data protection law. Sweden has a strong research biobank tradition underpinned by the Biobank Act and population register linkage infrastructure, and is a significant contributor to European biobank research through BBMRI-ERIC. IMY regulates data processing by major Swedish neuroscience and life science institutions including Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab, which operate large-scale cohort studies and contribute genomic and biobank data to European platforms. IMY is Sweden’s representative on the EDPB.
