CPT4 — Current Procedural Terminology
Overview
CPT4 (Current Procedural Terminology) is the US code set for physician services and procedures, maintained by the American Medical Association. First published in 1966, it is one of the Standard vocabularies OMOP CDM designates for the Procedure domain, alongside SNOMED CT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-PCS. Unlike SNOMED CT or LOINC, CPT4 is copyrighted. Using it requires a paid license from the AMA, though it remains the mandated coding system for Medicare, Medicaid, and most US payers.
