HCPCS — Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System

Overview

HCPCS is the US code set for products, supplies, and non-physician services not covered by CPT4, maintained by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. CPT4 itself forms HCPCS Level I. The codes usually meant by “HCPCS” are Level II, covering durable medical equipment, ambulance services, prosthetics, and certain drugs. Unlike CPT4, HCPCS Level II is maintained by a government agency and is not copyrighted. It is one of the Standard vocabularies OMOP CDM designates for the Procedure domain, alongside SNOMED CT, CPT4, and ICD-10-PCS.
