CIC Neurosciences — Centre d’Investigation Clinique (INSERM CIC-1422)
Overview
The Centre d’Investigation Clinique Neurosciences (CIC-1422) is a dedicated clinical research platform for neurological and psychiatric diseases, co-governed by Inserm and AP-HP and physically located on the first floor of the ICM building at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital. It provides the infrastructure, staff, and regulatory framework to conduct Phase I–III therapeutic trials and observational studies in close collaboration with the research teams of Paris Brain Institute and the clinical neurology service of AP-HP’s Pôle des Maladies du Système Nerveux.
CICs (Centres d’Investigation Clinique) are a national network created in 1992 by Inserm and the French Ministry of Health (DGOS) to bridge fundamental research and clinical application within university hospitals. The Pitié-Salpêtrière CIC Neurosciences is the neurology-specialist node of this network, one of ~30 CICs across France, and the French local partner of ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network) via F-CRIN.
Role and Activities
The CIC-1422 supports approximately 80 clinical studies per year, approximately half of which are therapeutic trials (Phase I/II/III). It provides regulatory and ethics support including preparation of CTA (Clinical Trial Authorisation) files for ANSM, CPP ethics submissions, and CTIS coordination. It acts as the interface between academic ICM researchers (as investigators) and pharmaceutical or biotech sponsors. The CIC provides access to the Pitié-Salpêtrière neurology ward and ICM cohort populations for patient recruitment. It works with NeurATRIS on Phase I/II trial endpoints for neurological biotherapies. Clinical trial data is captured via REDCap and CleanWEB and structured to CDISC standards for regulatory submissions.
Governance and Network
The CIC-1422 is under dual supervision by Inserm (scientific governance) and AP-HP (operational and financial). It is part of F-CRIN, the French national partner of ECRIN, with CIC-1422 as one of F-CRIN’s neuroscience nodes.
