Allen Institute for Brain Science

Overview

The Allen Institute produces large-scale open-access neuroscience datasets and tools. It co-founded NWB and is known for the Allen Brain Atlas series, the Allen Cell Types Database, and large-scale Neuropixels electrophysiology datasets archived on DANDI Archive.

Standards Co-Created

The Allen Institute co-founded NWB with the NIH BRAIN Initiative. INCF endorses NWB but did not co-found it.

Key Outputs

  • Allen Brain Atlas covers mouse and human gene expression.
  • Allen Cell Types Database covers electrophysiology and morphology.
  • Allen Brain Connectivity Atlas maps axonal projections.
  • MindScope Neuropixels datasets cover large-scale electrophysiology.

Connections

  • relatedTo: NWB (co-founded the standard; all large-scale electrophysiology data archived in NWB format)
  • registeredIn: DANDI Archive
  • relatedTo: INCF (Allen Institute is an INCF institutional partner)
  • relatedTo: BICAN (Allen Institute is a core BICAN participant, producing single-cell brain atlases as BICAN deliverables)
