EOSC — European Open Science Cloud
Overview
EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) is the EU’s federated infrastructure for research data, services, and tools across European research communities. Established in 2018 and governed by the EOSC Association, it requires FAIR Principles compliance for all EU Horizon Europe-funded research outputs and federates open science services across national and thematic infrastructures. EOSC integrates major European research infrastructures including EBRAINS, OpenAIRE, and ELIXIR, as well as national platforms such as Recherche Data Gouv in France. It provides the policy and technical framework within which the European Research Area’s open data commitments are implemented, and is closely aligned with EHDS for health data. Its direct predecessor was EOSC-Life (2019–2023), a Horizon 2020 project that brought together 13 ESFRI life science research infrastructures to produce shared open tools including WorkflowHub, a FAIR workflow registry, and RDMkit, now maintained by ELIXIR as a long-term resource.
