NFDI — Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur
Overview
NFDI (Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur) is Germany’s national research data infrastructure association, established in October 2020 with joint funding from the German federal government and the sixteen Länder, coordinated by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). It operates through approximately 30 thematic consortia as of 2024, each building discipline-specific research data management services, standards, and training for their scientific communities. Consortia directly relevant to open neuroscience include NFDI Neuroscience for neuroimaging and electrophysiology, NFDI4Health for clinical and epidemiological data, and NFDI4Bioimage for biological image data. NFDI is registered as a formal association (e.V.), participates in the EOSC Association as part of Germany’s European research data contribution, and coordinates with ELIXIR through the participation of de.NBI service centres in NFDI consortia.
