Science Europe

Overview

Science Europe is the Brussels-based association of major public research funding and research performing organisations, established in 2011 and representing members from more than 30 countries across Europe. Its mandate is to advance the interests of the European research community, build the European Research Area, and advocate for science policy at EU and global levels. Science Europe and its members founded cOAlition S and Plan S for immediate open access, the OA2020 initiative, and the Action Plan for Diamond Open Access. It also co-governs EOSC, contributes to CoARA on research assessment reform, and partners with RDA and OpenAIRE.

Practical Guidance

Science Europe publishes policy frameworks and practical tools for research organisations. Its Practical Guide to the International Alignment of Research Data Management provides a model DMP structure widely adopted by European funders, and is a standard reference for DMP policy development. Position papers on EOSC sustainability, research assessment reform, and open access policy are produced regularly and inform EU legislative processes.
